lots to post, just not right now : )

I had a whirlwind of a weekend, so I’m a bit behind on posting.

But…by the end of the day I will post two weddings and a portrait session in Yonkers. So please check back and don’t loose faith in me, I will not make this a habit!

Oh, here is a picture of me after I fell in the water this weekend at glen Island.
But wait till you see the photo it was so worth it!

taking another little break – Tennessee

I snatched up my family and ran to Tennessee to visit my father and his wife for a few days.
We are also going to visit Catherine’s sister in Nashville.
This is all part of my new formula for surviving the wedding season and staying fresh.
All work and no play… well you know the rest.
If anyone needs me please send me an email [ ricky (at) rickyrestiano (dot) com ], I am not checking messages at the office.
I will talk to everyone when I get back. (Friday morning)

Updates…

Hey all.
So I decided to update the blog with a little bit of “whats going on!”
As you can tell we are in the heart of the wedding season.
This year I will shoot more weddings then any other year. I’m humbled by this.
Everyones positive feedback is so much appreciated. I promise to not sit back and relax,
The intensity that I brought for the past 10 years will only grow stronger!
Website
I noticed that the gallery section of my website was getting a bit stale. Partly because I update the blog so often, I didn’t think that anyone even looked at the gallery.
Nevertheless I updated the gallery with three new weddings. (I left Danielle and Rob up there because I feel like that is a great representation of a winter wedding.)
If you get a second check out my choice’s let me know what you think.
Oh and the music was changed as well. As much as I like starting the playlist off with Lisa Hannigan I have to admit if I hear that song one more time I might lose it! The song that starts the website off is now “Forever” by Ben Harper, his lyrics are awesome.
Makeup artists
At least once a week I get asked about make up artisits. So I put together my list of artists that I think are masters of their craft.
In no particular order.

– Angela Civale – (914) 879-4161
– Jill Imbrogno (845) 661-7717 – www.jkflashy.com
– Rosalba – (917) 968-3535
– Vanessa Tarricone – I only have her email.
These four artisits are by far the best I have ever encountered.
Video
Video is such a nice addition to a killer wedding album. And of course I feel like I know some of the best in our area.
This post I decided to highlight Dave Venturini from Moving Pictures, but to be fair I will link all three of them in this post. I leave it up to you to decide who suits your needs.

– Dave Venturini
– Robert knowles
– Ed Neary
Dave/Moving Pictures actually just designed a new package that will cover everyones budget and style preference. He calls it the clean package. It is aimed at the person who wants a clean video with perfect audio and none of the bells and whistles. If this is something you need Check out this post on daves blog. It will explain it all.
Locations
This year my goal was to find obscure locations for the portrait portion of the day. I feel like this was a contagiouse thing with some of you. I received tons of emails and phone calls saying I found the perfect spot. I love it, I now have a network of people searching for something different. This industry is in for a shock! Or a wake up call. I hope all the other photographers are listening People want something different!!!

If you have any great ideas for location please let me know. I would love to scout it out and tell you if it will work.
Oh and for those of you that are still a bit traditional of course I still go to the normal spots Untermeyer, Pepsi and Glenn Island.

So thats it for now, If you would like to talk about anything above feel free to call me.
Oh and no posts wthout a photo.
This is Gretchen from West Palm Beach. Me and the girls escaped two weeks ago so I could reset. I didnt tell anyone because I didnt want my weekend brides to freak 🙂
Remember when being covered in sand was the greatest feeling in the world.

We went to visit my best friend EJ and his beautiful family. EJ and I have known each other since preschool!!

Check it out.

I happened to stop by my friend Dave’s [moving pictures] office yesterday and got a sneak peak at a video he was finishing. We shot this wedding together in a torrential downpour. This house was extremely challenging because of the lack of daylight. Dave has this amazing soft box (that you can see in one of the clips) that really brought this gloomy morning back to life.
Oh and the fact that Christina is insanely hot helped!!

He posted it to his website, but I swiped the code so I could have it on mine.
Enjoy this, its a true testament to how well we work together.

Here is the slide show recap I showed at there wedding in August 2008.

A message to my peers. (in my area)

Preface – You’re going to read this and think, “my God this guy is an ego maniac.”  That might be true, : ) but, on the contrary, I’m just frustrated. I try very hard to stay current and ahead of the curve.

A message to my peers (in my area)
So recently I’ve noticed that you are all changing your websites. May I say it has been long due!
We all look at each other’s work, so lets not pretend. Truthfully, I’m happy to see you all stepping it up,
and this has given me the opportunity to see how your styles are evolving.
It has been said that imitation is the best form of flattery and trust me I’m flattered!
But Instead of being a “copy cat”, try this: when you see something on my blog and you love it, use it to inspire you. Don’t just do the exact same thing. Put your twist on it. We all get stuck in a rut sometimes. But that’s the best part of our jobs. Every day is something different. We wake up in different moods; sometimes there is sun sometimes there’s not. Our subjects are all very unique. So, get to know them – we owe them our best effort. Not every bride belongs sitting on the floor. Don’t just follow the recipe that is working for me; because, you are not me. You are you. Now go develop that.
How many times have you arrived at the popular place for photos to see 3 other photographers fighting over the same spot? That’s the best opportunity to go for it and break the mold. Some of the best photos I’ve taken are in locations I have never shot before.
Anyway, the purpose is not to rant. However, you know who you are, I need not mention names. I’m glad I set the bar higher this season now go out there and create something outrageous and unique to yourself.
Ricky
P.S. – If you get nothing out of this and I’m still your “inspiration” at least be smart and don’t post those friggin’ shots on your site : )

This is how I feel!
